I ask a lot of questions... and I love answering them!
I’ve never done yoga, will classes work for me?
Absolutely! Most students come to me with zero yoga experience. The amount of personal instruction you receive will depend on the option you choose.
Private sessions are 100% customized to you and the entire session is devoted to your experience. You will receive loads of personalized instruction and plenty of time for to ask questions, reflect and integrate what you are experiencing.
Group classes are limited to 3-4 people so there is still ample time for personal instruction and Q&A, but my attention will be split among everyone's practice.
Online classes are pre-recorded, while there are suggestions for options, modification and props, there is no live instruction or real-time feedback.
I have a physical health condition, will yoga help?
While I absolutely believe yoga helps with damn near every aspect of life, there are some aspects of health to be mindful of when starting a yoga practice. Yoga isn’t a substitute for medical or mental health treatment but can be a wonderful way of complementing or enhancing your treatment. I send questionnaires before class starts where you can share (to the degree you feel comfortable) what physical health conditions you experience. We will talk about what works before, during and after and honor what your treatment professionals have recommended.
What do I need to have or bring?
For class in the Ananda studio:
All you need is clothing that you feel comfortable moving in, a notebook to jot down reflections and take home practices and a water bottle.
The studio is equipped with yoga mats, blocks, straps, cushions and cleaning supplies. You are welcome to bring your own mat, or use one from the studio.
There is also a secure area to change your clothing. Shower facilities are not provided.
For virtual or online, on-demand classes:
It is helpful to have a yoga mat, 1-2 yoga blocks and a small blanket or beach towel. Before you go buy a bunch of props, get creative with items you have at home. A stack of books can be a great option for blocks!
How do I know if I’m doing it right?
“Right” is relative and depends on who you ask. While I offer a lot of instruction on alignment, these are general guidelines and may need adjustments based on your anatomy and goals. In every class I aim to help you find what feels right and safe for YOU. If you leave class feeling lighter, stronger, more peaceful, compassionate and present, I say that’s right.
when I start private yoga, how often will we meet?
The frequency of sessions is ultimately up to you and should align with your personal goals (including financial). In general, I favor weekly meetings to develop a solid working relationship, enhance skills and awareness, and increase capacity for self-directed practice at home. Additionally, these meetings offer support with accountability and identifying any obstacles to practicing at home.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes, we can meet online for private yoga and Ayurvedic implementation sessions!
Can I be your therapy client?
Right now, my therapy practice is full. When that is the case, I don't feel it is ethical to maintain a waitlist. When the time comes to open my schedule to new therapy clients, I will announce that on my website and, most likely, my email list and social media accounts. Follow me there for updates.
wHERE ARE CLASSES?
In person classes are held in the Ananda Wellness studio located in Gunboat Park, just East of Downtown Tulsa. The studio is inside the historic 1925 building and features high ceilings, exposed brick and big, bright windows overlooking downtown.
Do you offer evening/weekend appointments?
I occasionally host group yoga classes and workshops after 5pm and on weekends. As of right now, I do not offer evening or weekend appointments for one-on-one sessions. My availability for private yoga and Ayurvedic sessions is Monday through Wednesday between 11am and 5pm.
