7 daily questions to support mental health

I have a phrase I share a ton in my therapy practice.

“Simple does not mean superficial.”

As humans, we are really good at complicating things. When it comes to health and wellbeing, we often overlook the simple stuff. Things like:

  1. Have I drank water?

  2. Have I been outside?

  3. Have I eaten?

  4. Have I had a regular bowel movement?

  5. Have I moved my body?

  6. Have I slept well & slept enough?

  7. Have I connected with someone or something I treasure?

I recommend asking yourself these questions daily, but especially when you feel yourself struggling mentally, emotionally or physically.

If any of your answers are “no,” that is your focus. If there are several, I recommend picking one to focus on for a week.

From there, take small actions towards turning that no into a yes. Maybe that means getting a fresh glass of water, or adding fiber-rich foods to your next meal. Maybe it is setting an alarm to go to bed 15 minutes earlier than usual or texting someone you care about to say “Hi, I’m glad you are in my life.”

Simple questions + Simple actions = deep and meaningful change

Once you can answer these questions with an enthusiastic “YES,” I guarantee you will feel significantly less stressed and better resourced, regardless of what is going on around you.

If you are in a place where all 7 questions are a yes and you are still struggling with overwhelm, anxiety or feeling disconnected -or- if you don’t have the mental or emotional bandwidth to take action on these 7, it is time to speak with a professional.
